Organization Context   

The Life Helpers Initiative (LHI) is a National Non-Governmental organization based in Nigeria, registered to operate across various states. Since 2004, LHI has been active in the Northeast (Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Plateau States), Northwest (Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, and Zamfara States), Ebonyi State, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Guided by its mission, LHI is committed to empowering children, youth, women, and communities in all aspects of life.   

LHI works across five thematic areas: Health, Education, Livelihood, Gender & Social Inclusion, and Agriculture. Currently, LHI is implementing a BHA project as part of a consortium with three implementing partners: Life Helpers Initiative (LHI), CARE International, and Save the Children International (SCI), with SCI serving as the lead partner. This project adopts an integrated approach focusing on Nutrition, Protection, WASH, Agriculture, and Multi-purpose Cash Assistance, with LHI specifically overseeing the implementation of Nutrition, WASH, and Protection components.

Job Summary (WASH MANAGER)  

The WASH Manager will provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of all Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) interventions within the organization’s programs. The role involves ensuring that WASH activities are implemented to a high standard, are inclusive, sustainable, and aligned with national and international humanitarian standards.

The WASH Manager will work closely with program teams, government counterparts, community structures, and relevant stakeholders to design and deliver integrated WASH responses that address the needs of vulnerable populations. This includes leading assessments, supporting proposal development, building staff and partner capacity, ensuring quality assurance, and promoting community participation and ownership. The position requires strong technical expertise, coordination skills, and a commitment to upholding humanitarian principles

Qualifications and Skills   

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Water Resources Management, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is an added advantage.
  • Proven experience in managing teams, program budgets, and coordinating multisectoral interventions.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with government line ministries, local authorities, and community structures.
  • Experience with donor-funded projects and familiarity with humanitarian standards guidelines.
  • Strong ability to work in a diverse socio-cultural environment with less supervision.   
  • Proactive attitude and ability to take initiative in identifying and addressing challenges.   
  • Demonstrated empathy and a non-judgmental approach when working with survivors of gender-based violence. Ability to speak the local language of respective locations.   
  • Experience in northeast Nigeria is an added advantage.   
  • Another assigned task.
