Job Purpose
The role of the Purchasing Officer is to support the project with effective daily procurement and market assessment activities This includes ensuring the timely cost effective and quality procurement of goods and services required for project operations in compliance with MSF supply protocols and ethical standards
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular analysis of the local market compare prices and engage in negotiation with suppliers to ensure optimal procurement conditions
- Collect at least three quotations for each procurement and ensure complete supplier information is documented
- Verify the quality and quantity of goods received and accurately update procurement and inventory records
- Assist with administrative procurement tasks including preparation of purchase orders tracking receipts and maintaining the supplier database
- Ensure all purchased items are delivered to the storekeeper following proper inspection and documentation procedures
- Uphold principles of transparency and fairness throughout the procurement process
- Monitor inventory levels supply trends and procurement patterns to support strategic purchasing decisions
- Evaluate suppliers for compliance with ethical business practices and adherence to MSF standards
Requirements and Qualifications
Education
- Minimum of a secondary school certificate
- Additional certification or studies in commerce procurement or related fields is an advantage
Experience
- Minimum of two years experience in procurement or supply chain management preferably in the humanitarian or nonprofit sector
Language Skills
- Fluency in English is required
- Proficiency in Hausa is considered an added advantage
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel Microsoft Word and internet based applications
- Familiarity with the local market dynamics in Kano

Salary and Benefits
Remuneration will be based on the MSF WaCA Nigeria salary scale at Level Five
