Project and Position Summary:
The Strengthening Inclusive Psychosocial and Nutrition Support in Borno State project, supported by CBM International, is focused on improving access to essential services for vulnerable individuals in conflict-affected communities. Targeting the MMC, Jere, and Konduga Local Government Areas of Borno State, the project integrates Nutrition, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and Gender/Disability-Based Violence (GBV) protection services. It seeks to address the complex needs of individuals, particularly those impacted by displacement, gender or disability-based violence, through a coordinated and inclusive approach.
The Project Coordinator, will lead the overall implementation and coordination efforts across the targeted locations. This position carries the responsibility of ensuring that all project components (Nutrition, MHPSS, and GBV protection) are effectively planned, executed, and monitored. The Coordinator will be instrumental in aligning project activities with strategic goals, donor expectations, and the standards set by the implementing organization.
The Project Coordinator will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the project, providing direct supervision to field teams and ensuring seamless collaboration among all team members. This includes developing work plans, tracking progress, compiling reports, and responding proactively to challenges that may arise during implementation.
In addition to internal coordination, the Coordinator will play a key role in fostering partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including local authorities, community leaders, and partner organizations. Through effective engagement and communication, the Coordinator will ensure the timely delivery of services and promote sustainability and impact in the communities served by the project.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Coordination and Implementation
- Lead the day-to-day planning, execution, and oversight of all project activities in the targeted LGAs of MMC, Jere, and Konduga, ensuring alignment with project objectives and donor expectations.
- Develop comprehensive and location-specific implementation plans, outlining timelines, resource requirements, responsibilities, and performance indicators to guide efficient and timely delivery of project interventions.
- Supervise and provide technical leadership to the Nutrition and Psychosocial Support Officer, as well as Community Volunteers, ensuring that staff are well-equipped and supported to carry out their roles effectively.
- Ensure the effective integration and coordination of Nutrition, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and Gender/Disability-Based Violence (GBV) protection components, promoting a holistic and inclusive approach to service delivery.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor activity implementation, assess quality of service delivery, and ensure adherence to organizational and donor standards.
- Identify potential risks and challenges in project implementation early on and work collaboratively with the project team and relevant stakeholders to develop timely and practical solutions.
- Ensure that project activities are implemented within the approved budget and timelines, flagging any deviations and initiating corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date records of all project activities, achievements, and lessons learned to support reporting and accountability.
- Collaborate with MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) teams to ensure systematic data collection, analysis, and use for informed decision-making and adaptive project management.
- Facilitate regular coordination meetings with field staff and partners to ensure shared understanding of goals, review progress, and encourage continuous improvement in project implementation.
2. Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
- Establish and maintain strong collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies (e.g., SMoH, SPHCDA, MoWA), community leaders, partner organizations, and donor representatives.
- Represent WINN at coordination meetings, including Nutrition, MHPSS, and GBV sub-sector working groups.
- Establish linkage with other Nutrition specific and sensitive sectors
- Ensure effective community engagement and ownership of project interventions.
3. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Collaborate with the MEAL team to ensure timely and accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting of project activities across all implementation sites.
- Support the documentation of project activities, outcomes, and challenges through detailed field reports, ensuring that data is disaggregated by gender, age, and disability.
- Contribute to the development of compelling success stories, case studies, and lessons learned to highlight project impact and support organizational learning and visibility.
- Prepare high-quality monthly, quarterly, and final narrative reports in collaboration with the Program Manager, ensuring they meet both donor and internal reporting standards.
- Monitor project performance against agreed indicators, using results to inform decision-making and improve program quality and effectiveness.
- Ensure timely submission of reports, data, and other documentation to relevant stakeholders, including donors, partners, and internal departments.
- Participate in periodic review meetings and assessments to evaluate project progress, identify gaps, and recommend necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
- Support the design and implementation of feedback and accountability mechanisms, ensuring that community input is captured and used to refine project interventions.
4. Staff Supervision and Capacity Building
- Provide supervision, mentorship, and capacity building for project staff and community volunteers.
- Facilitate regular team meetings to review progress, share lessons, and strengthen teamwork.
5. Financial and Administrative Management
- Support the Program Manager and Finance team in ensuring effective utilization of approved budget
- Participate in budget planning, expenditure tracking, procurement planning and activity-based financial reviews.
- Support the finance Team in the review and submission of finance reports
- Facilitate the development of periodic budget and activity forecast.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in health/public health/Nutrition, or Psychology/Social Sciences, and related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in humanitarian or development project coordination, preferably in Nutrition, MHPSS, and/or GBV protection programs.
- Experience in Nutrition in emergency, design and implementation of CMAM, MIYCN programmes, including monitoring and evaluation.
- Proven experience in project management, team supervision, and coordination with government and donor stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of humanitarian principles, safeguarding, gender, and inclusion.
- Excellent communication, writing, and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with data collection tools.
- Fluency in English required; knowledge of Hausa and/or Kanuri is an asset.
