Project Coordinator at Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) IN ABUJA 

Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) is an International NGO, supporting the agricultural development of Africa. It was co-founded in 1986 by Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman Borlaug, Japanese philanthropist Ryoichi Sasakawa (Nippon Foundation), and former US President Jimmy Carter. For over 35 years, we have been working in 17 countries in Africa.

Role Description

  • This is a full-time on-site role for a Project Coordinator, located in Abuja. T
  • he Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating project activities, liaising with national partners, overseeing project implementation, ensuring that project objectives are met, and maintaining project documentation.
  • Additional day-to-day tasks include monitoring project progress, preparing reports, and assisting with budget management.
  • The Project Coordinator will play a key role in promoting the adoption of improved agricultural technologies among smallholder farmers.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of agricultural development and value-chain integration
  • Ability to work on-site in Abuja full time
  • Experience in the agriculture NGO sector is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Project Management, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Organise farmer mobilization, community sensitization, field days, and profiling of beneficiaries
  • Conduct TOTs for EAs and Selected CBAs on sustainable climate-smart agricultural practices
  • Facilitate the establishment of Demo plots with climate smart technologies/practices and coordinate step down trainings
  • Organise training on PHAP, markets, enterprise development and appropriate technologies for value-addition and CSA for youth, women, and PWDs
  • Organise trainings for agrodealers on safe handling and sale of agrochemicals, fertilizers, improved maize and soybean seed varieties, business skills, and record keeping
  • Organize meetings of farmers/farmer groups, agrodealers, aggregators, and financial institutions for strategic partnerships, access to quality inputs and market linkage
  • Convene stakeholder meetings with governments, private sector partners, farmers/farmer organisations on governance and leadership
  • Lead Support Sector coordination through the BAGS and AVCDP Flagships and organize round discussion on value chain financing
  • Maintain good relationships with all stakeholders: donor, government, research bodies, ADPs and other partners.
  • Write quarterly and annual reports on project activities
  • Attend to other responsibilities assigned by the Country Director

Qualifications and Skills

  • MSc or PhD in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, or related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with smallholder farmers and the private sector.
  • Experience working on large scale dissemination projects.
  • Good knowledge of maize and soybean farming.
  • Practical experience in organizing trainings and working with farmer groups.
  • Strong communication skills in English and local languages.
  • Ability to write clear reports and keep records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel regularly to rural communities.
