ALIMA in Nigeria

ALIMA has been operational in Nigeria since 2016, responding to health and nutrition emergencies in Borno, Yobe, Katsina, and Ondo States. Our interventions cover:

  • Paediatric and maternal healthcare
  • Management of severe acute malnutrition (SAM)
  • Epidemic response (cholera, measles, Lassa fever, etc.)
  • Mental health services
  • Training and capacity building of health workers
  • Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services

In 2023, ALIMA delivered nearly 100,000 outpatient consultations, managed over 15,000 SAM cases, facilitated more than 1,800 safe deliveries, and provided critical inpatient and mental health support.

Job Purpose

The Nurse Supervisor – Mobile Clinic is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and monitoring all outreach and mobile clinic activities in line with ALIMA protocols and national guidelines.

He/she ensures high-quality service delivery through mobile clinics, covering screening, outpatient management of malnutrition (OptiMA), integrated primary health care, and health promotion. The position also focuses on strengthening early detection, referral, and follow-up of malnourished and sick children, ensuring strong linkages between mobile and fixed health facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and Coordination

  • Plan and coordinate all mobile clinic activities with the Outreach Manager and medical team.
  • Develop weekly movement and deployment plans.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and outreach planning.
  • Ensure activities align with ALIMA protocols and government guidelines (OptiMA, IMCI, EPI, etc.).
  • Maintain linkages between mobile and fixed facilities to avoid duplication of services.

Supervision and Team Management

  • Supervise mobile clinic teams (nurses, CHEWs, relays).
  • Ensure compliance with medical ethics, IPC, and patient confidentiality.
  • Provide on-site technical support and mentorship.
  • Conduct appraisals and identify staff training needs.

Service Delivery and Quality Assurance

  • Oversee screening, management of uncomplicated malnutrition, and medical consultations.
  • Support immunization and health promotion activities.
  • Ensure referral tracking and data harmonization.
  • Promote rational use of drugs and nutrition commodities.
  • Ensure IPC measures and clinic hygiene standards.

Community Mobilization and Linkages

  • Strengthen collaboration between mobile teams and communities.
  • Supervise relays to deliver health and nutrition sensitization.
  • Promote Family MUAC training for early detection.
  • Engage local leaders to support access and security.

Monitoring, Data Collection, and Reporting

  • Ensure accurate data collection via CommCare or paper tools.
  • Validate and compile daily and weekly activity reports.
  • Participate in data review and problem-solving meetings.
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure timely requisition of supplies.

Coordination and Collaboration

  • Work closely with Medical and Data teams for integrated service delivery.
  • Collaborate with health authorities and fixed facility staff.
  • Support ALIMA’s community health and nutrition expansion strategy.

Ethics and Compliance

  • Uphold ALIMA’s values and humanitarian principles.
  • Ensure confidentiality, informed consent, and patient respect.
  • Report any security, ethical, or misconduct issues in line with ALIMA’s Code of Conduct.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Registered Nurse (RN) or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science (BNS).
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in clinical, community health, or nutrition programs (OptiMA/CMAM).
  • Knowledge: Proficiency in OptiMA, IMCI, and PHC packages; familiarity with CommCare/DHIS2.
  • Language: Fluency in English and local languages.
