NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, emergency food security, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Education Technical Assistant

Responsibilities
Generic responsibilities:
- Plan and implement program activities in compliance with project log frame, budget, workplan and proposal and with NRC, donor and humanitarian practices.
- Mobilize communities to support learning opportunities and educational participation
- Identify and register children and youth for learning activities based on NRC and donor criteria
- Plan, oversee and document distribution of materials and supplies for learning, verifying that amount received and distributed and recording any losses.
- Monitor activities and ensure accuracy of data collection and tracking of community feedback and complaints in coordination with NRC’s Protection and Complaints and Feedback Units.
- Ensure that an approved procedure is followed in the registration and selection of beneficiaries and ensure that distribution list is accurately consolidated.
- Fills Warehouse Management and distribution inspection checklist for the school stores visited and distributions attended.
- Liaises with concerned government education offices for smooth and efficient programming.
- Together, WASH and Shelter teams support school construction/ rehabilitation activities, including hygiene promotion campaigns and WASH in schools.
Specific Responsibilities
- Ensure that learning spaces are safe for learners and report any protection concerns
- Supervise learning facilitators and enumerators and report performance concerns
- Provide training to teachers on pedagogy, child protection, and NRC’s Better Learning Program
- Develop weekly work plans and other key implementation planning documents
- Monitor implementation and provide recommendations to improve the quality of implementation
- Coordinate with other NRC programs, other organizations implementing education activities, and actively participate in Education in Emergencies Working Group meetings.
- Monitor and review the overall commodity movements such as project deliveries, storage, transport, and distribution at the site, and verify if the amounts received, distributed, and losses have been properly recorded.
- Supervise the distribution of project supplies at the project sites and ensure proper distribution of entitlements, and verify that appropriate entitlements are distributed to beneficiaries
- Reviews documents and processes that authorize distribution
- Ensure timely supply of teaching, learning, and recreational materials in the schools
- In consultation with the Project officer and teachers, facilitate the running of sports/recreational and psycho-social activities in learning centres
- Lead in mobilization and sensitization of community members on the importance of education in collaboration with PTAs, local administration, and the Ministry of Education.
- Lead education campaigns, including developing advocacy messages for different events.
- Carry out registration of learners in established communities and learning spaces in collaboration with local leaders, teachers, and PTAs.
Qualifications
- Technical background in Education, university Degree level in relevant discipline essential
- Minimum 3 years’ Education experience in a humanitarian/ early recovery context
- Experience working in complex and volatile contexts
- Previous experience working in BAY States, especially, Monguno, Borno State, is an added advantage.
- Technical Education expertise ( Non formal education, formal education, youth programming, Teachers Professional Development (TPD), Gender and Inclusive education programming.
- Very good working English (both written and verbal), fluency in the Local Language.
Context/ Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Proven knowledge in technical trainings such pedagogical skills, Better Learning programme(BLP), Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) and Learners’ Assessment, Teachers Professional Development (TPD) and Child protection, psychosocial support programme, Safeguarding, gender and inclusion education programming
- Proven knowledge soft education including WASH in schools, hygiene promotion, community sensitization.
- Good capacity for planning and monitoring of education activities in resources constraint environment
- Ability to work in to provide sound technical guidance and support to teachers in schools s well as school administration and other education stakeholders, including School Based Management Committees, Parent Teachers Association Members, Local Education Authorities(LEA)
- Have a good knowledge of the local cultures and languages of the areas of intervention
- Have a good command of computers (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc);
