The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional group of fifteen West African countries. Founded on 28 May 1975, with the signing of the Treaty of Lagos, its mission is to promote economic integration across the region.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Role Overview

  • Under the supervision of the Administrative Officer, the Driver will provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation services for OAG/ECOWAS staff, officials, and visitors, ensuring the proper maintenance and cleanliness of assigned vehicles.
  • The role supports the smooth operation of OAG/ECOWAS activities by handling driving duties, routine checks, and administrative/logistical support related to transportation.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Drive OAG/ECOWAS officials, staff, and authorized visitors to various destinations within and outside duty station.
  • Ensure the safety of passengers and vehicle during trips.
  • Maintain daily vehicle logs (mileage, fuel consumption, servicing, incidents, etc.).
  • Conduct routine checks of vehicles to ensure roadworthiness (oil, water, brakes, tires, etc.).
  • Report any technical/mechanical faults to the supervisor for prompt repairs.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, tidy, and in good condition always.
  • Ensure proper documentation of the vehicle (insurance, roadworthiness, registration, etc.) is up to date.
  • Assist with courier duties, including delivery/collection of official documents, parcels, and supplies.
  • Support administrative staff in logistical tasks during workshops, meetings, and missions.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Academic Qualification & Experience
Education:

  • West African School Certificate or equivalent certificate with a formal driver training certificate and a valid driver’s license/ certification to operate assigned vehicle.

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience as a driver, preferably for an international organization, Embassy, NGO, or Corporate Organization involving a variety of makes and models of vehicles;
  • Working knowledge of traffic rules and regulations, and ability to read and interpret traffic signs and documents such as safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions;
  • Maintain a log book;
  • Knowledge of defensive driving practices, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads and conditions, and protocols of relevance to safety and security of passengers during inclement weather, terrorism events, motor accidents, criminal and violent incidents;
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance (e.g. circle check) and ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and minor vehicle repairs.
  • Familiarity with routes and road networks within the duty station and neighbouring countries.

Age Limit:

  • Be below 35 years old. This provision does not apply to internal candidates.

  • Fluency in one of the three ECOWAS working languages (English, French & Portuguese);
    • Good written communication skills to understand correspondence/emails and reply accordingly.

  • Approaches and carries out all duties in a thorough and organized manner.
  • Ability to identify and appreciate the urgency and importance of different tasks.
  • Knowledge of the need for quality record keeping in planning and implementation of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to execute tasks in accordance with step-by-step instructions.

Salary
UA10,346.77 – UA18,595.62 ($16,325.14 – $29,340.17) Annually
