Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) At INTERSOS IN ABUJA 

JOB PURPOSE:

The CHEWs support direct implementation of CMAM activities and manage the activities of including passive case finding at the OTPS and referrals. He/She is responsible for providing quality Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) – E services at community and facility levels. The incumbent will engage in and will work with other team members in the delivery of optimal infant and young child feeding in emergencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Care at the OTP:

  • Ensures reception and triage of patients in waiting areas, detecting the priority acute/emergency cases, carrying out first aid care and referring them to the doctor when necessary
  • Provide care for Under 5 children with SAM without complication admitted into the OTP.
  • Conducts MUAC screening for under 5 children at the OTP and community when needed.
  • Ensures effective referral of complicated SAM cases to the nearest SC.
  • Ensures surveillance of patients at the OTP and community.

Monitoring And Reporting.

  • Ensures all referrals are properly documented.

Logistic & administration

  • Participates in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at the OTPs.
  • Support tracking of nutrition commodities used at the OTP in collaboration with the Field pharmacist.
  • Deliverables
  • Improved recovery rates and reduced mortality among SAM patients.
  • Accurate and timely Weekly reports.
  • Compliance with protocols and stock accountability
  • Any other task as assigned by the Supervisor
