Job Title: Community Field Agent

Locations: Wurno and Wamakko – Sokoto
Employment Type: Contract

Project Background

  • CRS has been operating in Nigeria for over 25 years, with extensive experience across all 36 states.
  • The organization has substantial expertise in building resilient agriculture-led livelihoods, enhancing agricultural value chains, and advancing natural resource management (NRM). CRS has successfully implemented several agriculture and livelihood development projects, including the Feed the Future (FtF) Agriculture and Livelihoods project and the Water for Agriculture initiatives across the Northeast and Northwest regions.
  • Additionally, CRS is leading value chain initiatives such as the BASICS project, which focuses on developing cassava value chains.
  • Regreening Africa – Phase II’ builds on concrete and inexpensive tools and approaches to restore and regreen land developed under ‘Regreening Africa – Phase I’, such as farmer-managed natural regeneration (FMNR), agroforestry, as well as soil and water conservation techniques.
  • ‘Regreening Africa – Phase I’ managed to reach over 500 000 households and almost 1 million hectares of land for regreening with these tools and restoration techniques.
  • The program operated in 8 countries (Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Somalia, Ghana, Kenya and Rwanda). ‘Regreening Africa – Phase II’ seeks to further scale existing interventions and spread the successful approach across the region, with a focus on Great Green Wall countries.
  • In Nigeria, the project will be implemented in Wurno and Wamakko LGAs of Sokoto State in partnership with various stakeholders.

Scope

  • CRS is looking for two 2 Community Field Agents, one for each of the following LGAs: Wurno and Wamakko.
  • The Community Field Agents will play a vital role in implementing the agriculture, livelihood development, and natural resource management activities of the EU-funded Regreening Africa phase II project.
  • They will be responsible for mobilization of participants, mounting demonstration plots, field-level training facilitation, and ensuring the quality of activities.
  • They will ensure that project agriculture, NRM, and livelihood results are achieved on time including reports and challenges, while working closely with the CRS Project Officer to ensure effective field-level execution of project interventions that enhance sustainable agricultural practices and community resilience.

Deliverables

  • Support the implementation of agriculture, livelihood development, and natural resource management activities with the CRS Project Officer.
  • Support the project officer during community mobilization efforts, including participant identification, group formation, activity demonstrations, training sessions, and routine monitoring.
  • Provide support and technical assistance in agronomy and agribusiness, FMNR, climate smart agriculture, IGA and Natural Resource Management.
  • Support the established demonstration plots to act as learning and multiplication sites for farmer groups.
  • Work closely with the Project Officer, providing Farmer group work updates, collecting data and reporting as required.
  • Conduct home visits and follow-up on participants/members absent from meetings, trainings, or project activities.
  • Promote use/adoption of modern farming practice and techniques through training, advising farmers, farm visits and demonstrations to transform targeted farmers from subsistence to commercial farmers.
  • Promote restoration of the depleted forest cover through tree-planting at household and community levels.
  • Promote Participatory Forest Management (PFM) and Participatory Rangeland Management (PRM) by working with existing and/or new forest and rangeland cooperatives.
  • Support the project in any other tasks as shall be assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by Country leadership.
  • Submit detailed and accurate monthly activity report to CRS.

Contract Duration:

  • This position is for 11 months with a possible renewal subject to availability of funding and job satisfaction. The position is expected to start November, 2025.

Requirements
CRS is looking for a Community Field Agent with:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in project implementation, preferably with a National or international humanitarian NGO
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender-responsive programming
  • Have skills in cascading training.
  • Have basic skills on how to engage with community members/project participant.
  • Able to read, write and speak fluently in English language and local languages spoken in Wurno and Wamakko.
  • Have basic calculation skills.
  • Flexible to work and available to respond to comments and questions in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • High regard for cultural norms and traditions.
  • Demonstrate patience and good leadership skills.
  • Willing to learn new things and have a volunteering spirit.
  • Being resident in Wurno or Wamakko (most specifically from the defined intervention area) will also be an added advantage.
