Civic and Political Organising Lab for Creatives
About the Program:
Yiaga Africa, with support from the Open Society Foundations (OSF), announces the call for applications for the Civic and Political Organising Lab for young creatives. This lab aims to inspire and mobilize creatives to promote civic engagement by producing content that advances political education, civic activism, good governance, and social cohesion among Nigerians.
The lab sessions will be facilitated by experienced artists, art educationists, civic art activists, and public officials. At the end of the program, participating artists will be tasked with producing civic-oriented artworks in their groups that promote political education, democratic accountability, and/or social cohesion. Yiaga Africa will provide small grants to support the production of these art works.
Who Should Apply?
– The Civic and Political Organising Lab seeks to mobilize 50 creative actors from the creative industry for arts-based civic engagement.
– Applicants should have project initiatives that promote civic engagement through art.
– Participants will be selected based on the strength of their applications.
– Both groups and individuals engaged in art-based civic initiatives are encouraged to apply.
– Young women and young persons with disabilities in the creative industry are especially encouraged to apply.
Eligibility:
Candidates must:
– Be Creative Artists (visual artists, musicians, dancers, monologue artists, spoken word artists, poets, etc.)
– Be between 18-30 years old
– Be interested in using arts to promote civic consciousness
– Be passionate about meaningful citizen participation in governance
– Priority will be given to applicants already working on or leading arts-based civic engagement initiatives.
Program Costs:
Yiaga Africa will cover all participation costs, including:
– Transportation to the state/location of the Civic and Political Organising Lab
– Accommodation during the event
– Meals and training materials throughout the event
