Gender Based Violence (Gbv) Caseworker (Maternity Cover) – Pulka At Malteser International

Malteser International has been working in Nigeria since 2017. In Northeast Nigeria and more specifically in Borno State, MI is currently active in the WASH sector for improving the lives of both the IDP population as well as the host communities. The WASH activities focus on improved access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. They include NFI distribution, solarization of boreholes, rehabilitation of hand pumps, construction of latrines and hygiene promotion. Malteser International thereby applies a participatory, gender sensitive and inclusive approach.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Gender Based Violence (GBV) Caseworker
Location: Pulka, Gwoza LGA – Borno
Duration of contract: 3 to 4 months (October – January 2026)

Description

  • The Case Worker oversees and coordinates all GBV activities in women and girls safe space (WGSS), assessing women and girls’ immediate needs, developing immediate care and treatment goals, implementing and monitoring women and girls’ care action plans.
  • In fulfilling these duties, the GBV Caseworker must ensure full compliance with MI and donor regulations, including administrative, human resources, finance, safety and security, and logistics procedures in the workplace.

Your Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise activities in Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) while maintaining daily contact with community-based workers for case identification and support.
  • Provide comprehensive case management, including intake assessments, action planning, follow-up, closure, and basic emotional support to clients and families in line with IASC MHPSS guidelines.
  • Conduct individual assessments to determine material assistance, dignity kits, NFIs, or transport support for medical treatment as required.
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate services, accompany clients when necessary, and strengthen referral pathways through service mapping and coordination with stakeholders.
  • Lead weekly case management meetings, ensure accurate documentation, confidentiality, and report emergency cases promptly to the Protection Officer.
  • Support reporting, monitoring, and evaluation through monthly activity reports, site visits, and identification of service gaps and quality issues.
  • Build capacity of Protection Volunteers and key community gatekeepers, conduct awareness sessions, and adhere strictly to Malteser International’s code of conduct and protection SOPs.

Your Profile

  • Minimum of two years work experience with international/national NGOs and/or local authorities in the Nigerian context with the same position
  • Sensitive to gender equality and GBV issues, commitment toward diversity and inclusion
  • Excellent listening skills are essential
  • Stress-resilient to be able to cope with deadlines and complex problems
  • Excellent communicator, understanding of cross-cultural and sensitive issues with good command of written and spoken English, Hausa, and any of (Mandra, Glavda)
  • Ability and motivation to build networks of trust with the community and work well with local authorities, local leaders and the local community
  • Computer literate (Word and Excel).

  • Salary expectation: Salary according to MI National Staff Salary Scale
