In today’s latest CCT news, the Federal Government’s has resumed RRR Conditional Cash Transfer CCT programme payment for the vulnerable poor Nigerians.
Recall that the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo–Iweala, recently met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. One of their key discussions centered on the urgent need to strengthen social safety nets in Nigeria. According to her, as the government continues with tough but necessary economic reforms, it is important to create buffers that shield the most vulnerable.
The CCT programme is one of the government’s answers to this challenge — ensuring that while reforms are ongoing, ordinary citizens are not left to suffer without support.
What is CCT: Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) is a government initiative designed to provide direct financial assistance to vulnerable and low-income households. The idea is simple — transfer cash directly to the poorest Nigerians under certain conditions, such as ensuring children go to school, attending health clinics, or meeting other welfare-linked requirements. This approach not only helps families meet their immediate needs but also encourages long-term investments in health, education, and wellbeing.
The RRR/CCT payment of N25,000 to over 2.1 million households has begun and each household will receive N25,000 three times.
