Join the Lake Chad Peace and Development Initiative (LCPD) as project coordinator in Yobe

BACKGROUND:   

The Lake Chad Peace and Development Initiative (LCPD), formerly Yobe Peace and Community Development Initiative (YOPCODI) is a nationally registered civil society organization established in 2014 and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in December 2016. LCPD is committed to enhancing equitable access to quality basic services for vulnerable communities, with a strong focus on women, children, adolescents, and youth in Northern Nigeria and the Lake Chad Regions. The Organization has implemented several projects and programs over a decade, through partnerships with the United Nations and other International NGOs; in the areas of Education, Child Protection, GBV prevention and Response, Livelihoods, Nutrition, Governance, and WASH in line with its mission for advancing social justice with specific focus on Women, Adolescents, Children, Youth and Persons with disabilities. LCPD has its Headquarters in Damaturu, Yobe State, and Field Offices across northeastern Nigeria. 

Job Overview:   

  • Job Title: Project Coordinator (Nutrition). 
  • Job Type: 6 months. 
  • Qualification: Master’s in Nutrition, Public Health, Medical Sciences, Humanitarian Studies, Disaster Management, or its equivalent in related fields.
  • Experience: 5 years minimum.   
  • Reports to: Programs Manager. 
  • Location: Nguru – Yobe State (with frequent travels to project sites and HQ in Damaturu – Yobe State). 

Job Summary: The incumbent Project Coordinator (Nutrition) will manage and oversee the implementation of nutrition programs. This involves planning, coordinating, and monitoring project activities, ensuring that they align with organizational goals and donors’ requirements. Moreover, the coordinator will provide technical expertise, supervise staff, and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve positive nutritional outcomes in Karasuma, Machina, and Nguru LGAs of Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Project Planning and Implementation:
  • Develop and submit to the Programs Manager detailed project work plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation for effective and efficient project implementation.
  • Work closely with the Consortium Manager to ensure effective Coordination between LCPD and Its Implementing Partner (IP) in delivering project output and outcomes in a timely ,manner.
  • Ensure activities are implemented according to established strategies, guidelines, and quality standards. 
  • Working closely with the logistics and procurement Officer, oversee the storage and distribution of supplies and equipment. 
  • Coordinate with other departments/units (e.g., HR, MEAL, Finance, Safety/Security, etc) for integrated programming. 
  • Technical Support and Supervision:
  • Provide technical guidance to project staff members and partners on nutrition interventions. 
  • Supervise and mentor nutrition officers, volunteers and community health workers. 
  • Conduct training sessions for staff members and community members on topics like infant and young child feeding. 
  • Ensure adherence to nutrition protocols and best practices. 
  • Monitoring and Evaluation:
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret project data to track progress and identify challenges. 
  • Conduct regular monitoring visits to project sites. 
  • Prepare reports for internal review and submission to donors. 
  • Contribute to program development by participating in assessments and proposal writing. 
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Through the Community Mobilization/Engagement Officer, to liaise with government officials, community leaders, and other partners. 
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among different stakeholders. 
  • Address operational issues and escalate complex problems to the Programs Manager. 
  • Resource Management:
  • Manage project resources (equipment, supplies, and personnel) effectively. 
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures. 
  • Safeguarding:
  • Ensure that all project activities are implemented with a lens of safeguarding children, women, and other vulnerable groups
  • Be vigilant about observing possible child abuse/harm and report any concerns. 
  • Promote child safeguarding messages to colleagues and community members. 
  • And any other tasks assigned by your Supervisor(s) in line with the core values, missions, visions, and objectives of the organization/donor’s requirements.  

Key requirements:  

  • Certification in project management/leadership, time/team management for task prioritization and deadline adherence.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Share Point, Google Sheets/Docs, Report Writing (in humanitarian context), Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experienced working in a humanitarian or development setting is an added advantage.  
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills (in both Hausa and English Languages).
  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work well under pressure.
  • Experienced in developing and delivering coaching and training to a range of audiences across different cultures and abilities.
  • Experienced in collecting and compiling stories, videos, and photographs.
  • Strong humanitarian acumen and ability to work well across different functions to integrate people’s strategies into organizational objectives and mission.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with host communities, based on professionalism, human rights, PSEA Policy, and humanitarian principles.
  • Proficiency in accountability and a commitment to confidentiality with tact and discretion in a humanitarian setting.  
  • Adaptability and flexibility to take on new tasks and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated capacity for teaching & coaching, engaging approach to training, and orientation session delivery.
  • Cultural sensitivity for diverse interactions.  
  • Effective and efficient in budget proposal writing.
