About CAARI
The Climate Awareness Advocacy and Resilience Initiative (CAARI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to climate action, peacebuilding, and sustainable development in vulnerable communities. Although currently unfunded, CAARI offers rich opportunities for professional growth, including fieldwork experience, training, and direct engagement with local and national stakeholders.
Role Summary
CAARI is recruiting Volunteer LGA Peace and Conflict Resolution Officers to promote peaceful coexistence, particularly between farmers and herders, in the selected LGAs. Volunteers will engage in community dialogue, raise awareness about climate-induced conflicts, and support grassroots conflict resolution mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities
Conflict Mediation & Dialogue
- Facilitate dialogue sessions among farmers, herders, and local leaders.
- Promote peaceful negotiation and resource-sharing strategies.
Community Engagement & Awareness
- Raise awareness on the links between climate change and local conflicts.
- Mobilize youth, women, and traditional leaders in peacebuilding efforts.
Reporting & Documentation
- Monitor conflict trends and early warning signs.
- Document activities and support grant proposal writing.
Networking & Advocacy
- Collaborate with government bodies, NGOs, and security agencies.
- Represent CAARI in LGA-level peace and climate forums.
Requirements
- A degree or relevant experience in Conflict Studies, Social Sciences, Agriculture, or related fields.
- Previous experience in community mediation or farmer-herder conflict resolution is an advantage.
- Proficiency in English and at least one local language (Hausa, Kanuri, or Fulfulde).
- Ability to work independently, especially in sensitive or insecure areas.
- Strong commitment to peace, climate justice, and community service.
