Code for Africa: Community Coordinator Opportunity – Shape Africa’s Civic Tech and Data Journalism Landscape

Code for Africa (CfA), the continent’s largest civic tech and data journalism initiative, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Community Coordinator to join our team. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the growth and impact of CfA’s Communities of Practice across Africa.

Positions Available In: Cameroon, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger.

Exceptional candidates from other African countries will also be considered.

Role Overview:

The Community Coordinator will play a key role in nurturing CfA’s flagship networks, including the africanDRONE community, African Fact-Checking Alliance network (ACFA), Hacks/Hackers, sensors.AFRICA network (EcoSense Collective), WanaData, and the African Wikipedian Alliance (AWA) and the Wikipedian-in-residence (WiR) community. These networks connect over 1500 professionals from diverse fields such as journalism, data science, fact-checking, technology, and research.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multinational and multilingual team, utilizing digital collaboration tools to create content for a global audience and international media partners.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Assist in building and nurturing CfA’s Communities of Practice across Africa.

•  Organize and coordinate online, offline, and hybrid events and community outreach activities.

•  Manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results.

•  Engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including journalists, data scientists, technologists, researchers, and academic professionals.

•  Build relationships with diverse audiences and expand CfA’s network.

•  Deliver on contractual project requirements and produce regular monitoring reports.

•  Facilitate training and mentoring sessions.

Required Qualifications:

•  At least 2 years of experience in community management or a related field.

•  Excellent project management skills.

•  Proven experience engaging with diverse stakeholders and building relationships.

•  Experience delivering on contractual project requirements and producing reports.

•  Comfortable facilitating training and mentoring sessions.

•  Bilingual proficiency in French and English is highly advantageous.

We’re Looking for Someone Who:

•  Has 2+ years of experience in community or project management.

•  Can facilitate engaging community events and training sessions.

•  Understands stakeholder engagement and strategic community growth.

•  Works effectively remotely using digital collaboration tools.

•  Is bilingual (English and French).
