About the Role:
As a Journalist, you will research, report, write, translate, edit, and adapt stories for our radio and digital platforms. You will identify interesting contributors and interviewees, conduct interviews, chair discussions, and participate in productions. The role involves suggesting fresh angles, amending material, developing strategies, and collaborating with team members, contributors, reporters, and colleagues across BBC Africa. You will also be responsible for studio production, responding to breaking stories, resolving technical difficulties, and filing TV reports in Hausa and English.
Are You the Right Candidate?
The ideal candidate will be a fluent Hausa speaker and writer with a very good level of English, possessing:
• A keen interest in current affairs and digital market developments in Nigeria and West Africa.
• Excellent broadcasting voice and presentation skills.
• Strong writing ability to adapt and translate accurately and stylistically across different media.
• Good keyboard/computer skills and technical proficiency, with practical experience and knowledge of the internet and social media.
• Proven experience as a journalist, with a broad familiarity of the areas to which the Hausa Service broadcasts and an in-depth understanding of the area’s history, politics, social issues, and culture.
• Extensive knowledge of the media situation in the target area and thorough knowledge of African news and current affairs.
