SNV is recruiting a Project Manager to lead the implementation of an energy project focused on energy access, renewable energy technologies and business innovation in Nigeria.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Manager will provide overall technical leadership and managerial oversight of SNV’s component of the Energy Project.

The successful candidate will be responsible for project planning, implementation, financial management, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, team leadership, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting and achievement of agreed project results.

The role reports directly to the Country Director and works closely with global Access to Energy leads and the local technical team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Set up project governance, administrative, financial, HR and M&E structures.
2. Lead project planning, implementation, monitoring and financial management.
3. Manage project teams, partners and relevant stakeholders.
4. Monitor deliverables, timelines, budgets and quality standards.
5. Ensure compliance with SNV procedures and donor requirements.
6. Manage project budgets, expenditures, financial reporting and budget revisions.
7. Identify and mitigate financial, operational and project risks.
8. Lead recruitment, coaching, development and motivation of project team members and consultants.
9. Maintain effective relationships with donors, partners and other stakeholders.
10. Identify opportunities for innovation, positioning, business development and project scale-up.
11. Ensure collection, analysis and reporting of project information.
12. Document and share lessons learned, best practices, project results and knowledge.
13. Support project evaluation, closure and proper handover of project documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should possess:

1. A relevant Master’s and/or Bachelor’s Degree in Energy, Engineering, Environmental Science, Energy Management, Energy Systems or a related field.
2. At least 8 years of experience in energy sector development.
3. Strong knowledge of renewable energy, clean cooking and biodigesters.
4. Experience leading complex programmes and projects in the energy sector.
5. Experience with monitoring, evaluation and learning systems and platforms.
6. Strong donor and partner engagement and proposal development skills.
7. Experience preparing fundable concept notes and interventions.
8. Experience engaging private-sector stakeholders and supporting SMEs.
9. Knowledge of energy financing mechanisms, including blended finance and Nigeria’s energy transition agenda.
10. Practical experience applying gender equality and social inclusion principles.
11. Experience working in complex development environments.
12. Excellent written and spoken English.
13. Experience building partnerships with bilateral and multilateral donors, NGOs and regional bodies.
14. Demonstrated experience in project design, implementation, operations, team leadership and performance measurement.
