H&M Foundation Global Change Award

The H&M Foundation Global Change Award seeks innovators who can contribute to reducing carbon emissions in the fashion industry.The goal is to drive the textile industry toward achieving net-zero emissions by fast-tracking innovations that support both people and the planet. Their vision is to ignite a sweeping transformation across the industry, creating a socially inclusive and environmentally positive future.
Each year, they will support ten new changemakers—individuals with dedication, ability, and initiative to tackle challenges—on their unique paths to turn groundbreaking ideas into real, impactful solutions. Their aim is to provide these changemakers and the textile industry with the knowledge, tools, networks, and a comprehensive approach needed to spark major industry-wide progress towards a net-zero future where people and the planet can flourish.

Focus Areas

The GCA focuses on four main areas of transformation that strategically drive systemic change. The following examples illustrate each focus area but are not comprehensive.

  • Sustainable materials and processes – Innovations in low-energy materials, new and recycled fibers, sustainable energy practices, alternative wet processes, treatments and finishes, and novel construction techniques.
  • Responsible production – Solutions involving renewable energy, energy efficiency, predictive modeling, traceability, on-demand production, waste management, and zero-waste practices.
  • Mindful consumption – Innovations that reshape demand, improve garment care, extend garment life cycles, promote recycling solutions, and support circular business models.
  • Wildcards – Influential solutions or concepts that align with the GCA’s mission but fall outside these defined areas.
