Funded opportunity for journalists and filmmakers
One World Media is looking for 12 journalists and filmmakers in Kenya and Nigeria to participate in a collaborative project designed to enhance capacity and knowledge in solution-focused health reporting.
Global Short Docs Forum: Health Solutions 2024 aims to bring together these individuals to exchange skills and to experiment with visual storytelling techniques that explore health issues impacting both countries.
In the first stage of the initiative, 12 journalists and filmmakers will take part in a series of workshops. For the second phase, the best ideas will receive a production grant of $7,000 to deliver their stories and they will be supported by mentors and editors. They will be supported by mentors and editors. The final productions will be screened at local events and be made available online.
Criteria
To fulfil the criteria, you must:
- Be working and living in Kenya or Nigeria.
- Be a filmmaker, broadcast or print journalist with 3 years or more worth of experience.
- Have published human interest or health stories in the national media – on any platform.
- It is not an essential requirement, but we are particularly keen to get applications from those based outside the metropolitan areas of Nairobi and Lagos i.e. County-based journalists/correspondents.
Timeline
The project will be delivered between July and November 2024, and involve online and face-to-face workshops and production-related activities. Whilst it will be possible to combine your regular work commitments with this project, you must have the capacity to commit to the workshops and the final production. More information will be provided to the shortlisted journalists and filmmakers.
