As a Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Open Minds Young Voices fellow of Cohort 3 (2020), I can attest that this fellowship was a game-changer for me. It transformed my mindset, broadened my knowledge in the development space, and connected me with like-minded individuals who share high leadership traits.

2025 ‘Open Minds – Young Voices’ Youth Activists Programme!

The Open Minds – Young Voices Programme (OMYV) is an empowerment
programme organized by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), a German political
foundation. It aims at developing young, motivated and outspoken Nigerians who
are working and advocating for social justice and good governance. We look for
individuals with great leadership potential in their respective fields who want
to shape the society they live in. Successful applicants benefit from
educational modules that enhance their knowledge on issues of socio-economic
and political relevance in Nigeria. Practical sessions include inputs and
discussions on various socio-economical topics as well as skills training on
project management, group facilitation, conflict management, advocacy and
leadership.

Who Should Apply?

If you are actively engaged in any sector of the society including,
but not limited to, trade unions, civil society organizations, community based organisations, political
parties, research institutions, government administration, educational institutions, and
the media; if you have shown commitment to representing the common interest of
the Nigerian people – then we are happy to receive your application!

Location and Period of Programme
March to November 2025 at Wuse II, Abuja
Every second and fourth weekend of the month, for 16 – 18 weekends
Saturdays from 9.00 am – 5.00 pm; and Sundays from 12.00 pm – 5.00 pm

Eligibility
Candidates must be:
between the ages of 18 and 35 by the time of application,
conversant with socio-economic and political issues in Nigeria,
creative, progressive and willing to become change agents,
have the potential to be positive role models,
able to communicate fluently in English and partake in regular group assignments,
resident in Abuja or surroundings,
ready to commit to 95% attendance requirement.

a Letter of motivation answering these questions: 1.“How will the programme improve your work for the common good of the Nigerian society?” (500 – 1000 Words). 2. “In your professional and non circular engagement until now: In what way have you personally stood up for social democratic/progressive values? (Between 500 – 1000 words)”

Deadline is Sunday, December 29, 2024 by 23:59 WAT and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.
