1) GFMER / OMPHI : Online training course on Obstetric Fistula

Obstetric Fistula is an important cause of maternal morbidity, especially in low and middle-income countries, where access to skilled birth attendants is limited. Each year between 50 000 to 100 000 women worldwide are affected by obstetric fistula. Women who experience obstetric fistula suffer constant incontinence, shame, social segregation, as well as sexual and other health problems. It is estimated that more than 2 million young women live with untreated obstetric fistula in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

Obstetric Fistula course – Objective:
The course aims to enhance knowledge, improve diagnostic and treatment skills, and raise awareness about Obstetric Fistula among health workers, especially in regions with high prevalence of Obstetric Fistula. It will also emphasize the importance of social and sexual reintegration of women with Obstetric Fistula.

Obstetric Fistula course – Course content:
Module 1. Definition, Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Causes, Risk Factors, and Prevention of Obstetric Fistula
Module 2. Diagnosis and Classification of Obstetric Fistula
Module 3. Management of Obstetric Fistula
Module 4. Social Reintegration
Module 5. Sexual Health and Obstetric Fistula

If you are interested in this topic, please access the course, read the materials, complete the assessment test which composes 35 questions. The participants who correctly answer at least 80% of the multiple-choice questions will receive a course certificate via email jointly signed by OMPHI and GFMER.

2) GFMER / WHO(RHR) / UNESCO – Online training course on sexual health

Sexuality and sexual health are two closely related concepts fundamental to the overall health and well-being of populations. Unfortunately, progress towards developing a comprehensive approach to sexual health has been relatively slow. Despite the fundamental importance of sexuality as a core component of sexual health, their interlink is poorly understood by health care providers. This translates into low quality sexual health programmes, lack of (access to) essential sexual health services and negative consequences at population level such as stigma and discrimination.

Sexual health course – Objective:
This introductory course wants to increase the knowledge of health professionals about sexuality and sexual health and their meaningful inclusion within the overall health field. This to positively affect both the sexual and reproductive health and rights of their patients.

Sexual health course – Course contents:
Module 1. Introduction to sexual health
Module 2. Key issues related to sexual health
Module 3. Sexual health and human rights
Module 4. Sexuality education and sexuality-related communication
Module 5. Health system response to sexual health
