Apply to the Vienna Biocenter Summer School 2025
The Vienna Biocenter Summer School is now accepting applications for its 2025 program. This prestigious initiative offers approximately 20 undergraduate students the chance to collaborate with top-tier researchers in a vibrant scientific setting. The program seeks to attract bright and talented students from around the globe, fostering a diverse and dynamic community of scholars. It is an excellent stepping stone for students considering graduate studies in life sciences. Participants benefit from a comprehensive package that includes accommodation, a travel allowance, and a stipend. The program commences on the last Friday of June and concludes on the final Friday of August or August 31 each year.
Eligible candidates must be undergraduate or master’s students in life sciences who have completed at least two years of their studies by June 30. Applicants must meet specific academic criteria, such as being in the third or fourth year of a four-year bachelor’s degree program or in the first year of a two-year master’s program. Students in the second year of a U.S. undergraduate degree or a four-year BTech program in India are also eligible to apply. A minimum of three months of prior research experience, a strong academic record, and proficiency in English are required. Applicants must provide proof of enrollment in a university program for the current academic year and, if applicable, the next year.
Medical students can apply if they have completed 3–4 years of their program, possess relevant research experience, and intend to pursue a PhD in life sciences upon graduation. Degrees in veterinary medicine, medical engineering, agriculture, pharmacy, zoology, food or nutritional sciences, or other fields unrelated to molecular and cellular biology or lacking lab training are not eligible for consideration.
The Vienna Biocenter Summer School offers participants a comprehensive package of benefits designed to support their academic and personal growth while ensuring a comfortable and enriching experience in Vienna. Selected students will receive free, fully furnished student accommodations for the duration of the nine-week program. In addition, participants are awarded a generous stipend of €1,400 after taxes to cover personal expenses. The program also provides comprehensive medical insurance, ensuring that students have access to healthcare during their stay.
Travel expenses are covered, with reimbursement provided for transportation to and from Vienna. To make navigating the city convenient, participants receive a free public transport pass, granting unlimited access to Vienna’s efficient transportation network.
